HOW TO Change Authentication Methods

If there is a need to change your authentication method because you will no longer have the phone number associated with your account, or you cannot access your phone, or it was broken or stolen. You can use an alternative method to authenticate by using another DEVICE such as an Ipad or an Android tablet. You just need to make sure that it has a usable camera to scan QR codes. 

Additionally you need to first make sure you are logged into your outlook email on the web as seen on the image below.

We will now use the tablet or Ipad to change to a Microsoft Authenticator App. 

First you will need to click on your photo located at the top right corner of your outlook. 

This will open a submenu. Select VIEW ACCOUNT below your name.

This will open another tab for you. Under the Security Info click UPDATE INFO.

In this section you will see the number you currently have associated with your account. Here you have the option to add another sign in method. Select "+ add sign-in method".

This will open a window with a dropdown menu. When you click it you will find the AUTHENTICATION APP, method. Select it and continue.

You will now have to download the app on your Ipad or tabled. Once it is downloaded you can click next.

You will get a prompt requesting how you would like to get verified. The first option is the simplest, where the App will send you a notification and you simple have to accept it. The second is a verification code similar to what you get with a text message. you can select either and click next. 

Make sure you allow notifications if the app requests it and select add "Work or School" and click next.

You should see on your app the option to scan a QR code. This code will appear on your laptop screen. Once you scan the code your account should be linked. You can click next and one last window will appear. 

This window is just to make sure you are able to get the codes or notification message, Click next to make sure it is working. 

If you did everything correct you should see the following message appear on your computer screen. You can continue by clicking next and now you can sign in to your VPN with the authenticator app.
